A match made in heaven
Nobody thought Horace Vandergelder would marry, but then he met the matchmaker. This witty farce takes you back to a simpler era, but with a sitcom flair. First produced in 1954 as a remake of The Merchant of Yonkers, The Matchmaker was a smash success that left audiences on both sides of the pond in stitches. Wilder's witty farce follows Horace Vandergelder, a wealthy businessman with a cold heart and poor chances of marriage, as he seeks love with the help of the matchmaker. Avid theater buffs will note that this is the show that eventually gave inspiration to the Broadway hit musical Hello Dolly! Presented at the Courthouse Center for the Arts. (Directions)
