August 5, 2006 at 8 p.m.
At 12:01 a.m. on August 5th, five writers settled down in the Courthouse Center for the Arts and wrote an original script. Each play included two characters, and every writer was challenged with the mandatory inclusion of a randomly assigned complicating factor, such as a minute of silence, a play within a play, or a car trip.
Once finished, five directors came for a complementary breakfast and each was randomly assigned to one of our brand new plays. They had an hour over breakfast to discuss the play with the playwright and then the actors arrived. After a brief casting session, each group had a mere nine hours to rehearse and prepare and, ready or not, at 8 p.m. the show started.
At the end of the show, the audience voted for its favorite performance, we gave out some awards and cleaned up, and everyone wento home before 11:59 p.m., less than 24 hours after we began!
