SOUTH KINGSTOWN - The Contemporary Theater Company will christen its Studio at the South County Commons in April with the world premiere of "Composition" by Andy Hoover.

This thought-provoking comedy features live painting, music and construction as it follows a quirky group of workers - played by Christine Cauchon, Stephen Grueb, Curt Larson and Amelia Giles - preparing a bare stage for a play.

Cauchon and Giles hail from South Kingstown, and Grueb and Larson from North Kingstown.

Their play-within-a-play features Providence resident Jacqueline Barros and South Kingstown resident Sami Avigdor as government agents on a top-secret mission. Avigdor and Barros, who recently starred in Mixed Magic Theatre's "When Mahalia Sings," have been sent to guard a shy harpist and her philosopher uncle. Played by South Kingstown residents Laura Kennedy and Shawn Fennell, they are keepers of a big, dangerous idea that threatens to shake the foundation of both worlds.

"There's no better way to burst into a new space than with a play about creating new art," Artistic Director Christopher J. Simpson said. "We are thrilled to bring this fascinating story to our new home at the South County Commons."

"Composition" marks the third Hoover script premiered by the Contemporary Theater Company, following the hugely popular productions "Set & Drift" in 2007 and "The Gift of the Magi" in 2009. Hoover, who lives in New York City, has also picked up awards at two 24-Hour Play Festivals.

"Composition" plays April 1, 2, 8, 9, 15 and 16 at 7 p.m. and April 17 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 except on April 8, which has no set admission price. Instead, audience members are encouraged to donate what they are able.

The Contemporary Theater Company Studio at South County Commons is located at 50 South County Commons Way, South Kingstown, R.I. and is handicapped accessible. More information is available at www.TheContemporaryTheater.com or by calling (401) 218-0282.
