SOUTH KINGSTOWN – An evening of one-act plays, a modernized Greek myth, a rollicking Christmas comedy and the annual 24-Hour Play Festival comprise the Contemporary Theater Company’s fall season.

A special collaboration with the South Kingstown High School Drama Club begins the season. Together with theater company artists, students will stage a festival of one-act plays on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 in the high school auditorium. The festival is made possible through the generous support of the South Kingstown Educational Foundation.

October brings a modern reimagining of the Orpheus myth. “Eurydice” presents a vibrant portrait of love and loss written by Sarah Ruhl, one of America’s most-celebrated young dramatists. The show runs at the South Kingstown High School Auditorium.

“Mrs. Bob Cratchit’s Wild Christmas Binge” by Christopher Durang offers a witty take on Dickens’ oft-told classic about Ebenezer Scrooge. When the Ghost can’t get her magic to work quite right, she and Scrooge wind up at Bob Cratchit’s house to find a neurotic Mrs. Cratchit lamenting urban life and motherhood and planning to jump off the London Bridge. The production plays in December at The Towers in Narragansett.

The seventh annual 24-Hour Play Festival features original short plays written, rehearsed and performed in a single day. Ready or not, the actors take to the stage to present comedic scripts where anything can happen. The festival is Jan. 7 at 8 p.m. at the South Kingstown High School Auditorium.

A complete fall schedule and more information is available at www.TheContemporaryTheater.com or by calling (401) 218-0282. Ticket prices are $15 to $22 depending on the production and the day of week. All facilities are handicapped accessible.
