| CTC Presents 'The Gift of the Magi' | |
For Immediate Release NARRAGANSETT - A charming story and original music unite at The Towers in Narragansett this December for the Contemporary Theater Company's second annual production of "The Gift of the Magi." This musical version of "The Gift of the Magi" - adapted from O. Henry's classic story of love and generosity - playfully reminds audiences of important truths that we often overlook in the bustle of the holidays. While writers Brandon Michael Lowden and Dave Holtz remain true to O. Henry's story, they add some 1950s-era flair and original music that make this a show like no other. "It's important to have stories like this being told for the holidays," Artistic Director Christopher J. Simpson said. "O. Henry masterfully turned misfortune into hope, and our writers have explored this in a way that both preserves the story and incorporates elements certain to delight audiences." South Kingstown residents Nevan Richard and Emily Elderkin star as Jim and Della, a couple searching for a way to express their love amid a deeply commercial culture. Their lives intersect with Andy and Sarah, young coworkers just discovering the magic of love. Played by Patrick Keeffe, of North Kingstown, and Laura Kennedy, of South Kingstown, the characters add a new dimension to the classic story. The Contemporary Theater Company adaptation also features South Kingstown resident Max Mathews as a crotchety shopkeeper named Ed and Narragansett resident Jillian Thacher as his cheery alter ego, Marge. Last year the Contemporary Theater Company presented an adoption of "The Gift of the Magi" at Midtown Café in South Kingstown and recorded sell-out crowds. With the new venue at The Towers, the company offers more seating in a beautiful setting along the Atlantic shoreline. "The Gift of the Magi" plays Dec. 16, Dec. 17, Dec. 18, Dec. 22 and Dec. 23 at 7 p.m. and on Dec. 19 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15. The Towers is located 35 Ocean Road, Narragansett, RI and is handicapped accessible. More information is available at www.TheContemporaryTheater.com or by calling (401) 218-0282. ### |
