| CTC presents four-person 'Romeo and Juliet' | |
For Immediate Release NARRAGANSETT – This is not your high school “Romeo and Juliet.” This February, the Contemporary Theater Company adds a new flavor to the classic Shakespearian tragedy by performing it with just four actors. “Shakespeare endures not only for his stories, but also for the tremendous depth and nuance within each character,” said Artistic Director Christopher J. Simpson, who appears in the show. “By developing these differences and using them to create five, six or even seven different characters within each actor, we will produce this masterpiece with a focus on the versatility of our actors and the art of Shakespeare’s words.” The play features Simpson, of South Kingstown, alongside Contemporary Theater Company favorite Nevan Richard of South Kingstown, Amy Lee Connell of East Providence and Shawn Fennell of Hileah, Fla. They will all fill a variety of roles but Connell will star as Juliet and Fennell as Romeo, with Richard as Friar Lawrence, and Simpson as the Nurse. The company is pleased to return to The Towers for the fourth time, having produced “The Last Five Years” in February, hosted a Masquerade Gala and Auction in September and presented “The Gift of the Magi” in December. “Romeo and Juliet” plays Feb. 18, Feb. 19, Feb. 25, Feb. 26, March 4, March 5, March 11 and March 12 at 7 p.m. and March 6 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15.
