For Immediate Release
WEST KINGSTON - The Courthouse Theater Company is back at The Courthouse Center for the Arts this summer for a second season, taking on two Pulitzer Prize-winning shows and a 24-Hour Play Festival.
This season will kick off June 29 with David Auburn's Proof , which in addition to winning the Pulitzer Prize for drama, was recently made into a major motion picture starring Anthony Hopkins and Gwenyth Paltrow. Shows run daily from June 29 to July 2.
The Company's second show will start at 12 a.m. on Aug. 5. Writers, directors and actors from across Rhode Island will come together at the Courthouse to produce six original 10-minute plays. A test of endurance and creativity alike, this event will be an opportunity to welcome new participants into the Company. The shows themselves will start at 8 p.m.
The season will wrap up with You Can't Take It With You , the crazy comedy by George Kaufman and Moss Hart, showing daily from Aug. 17 to Aug. 20. Both heartwarming and hilarious, this Pulitzer Prize-winning show will send the summer 2006 season out with style.
The Courthouse Theater Company was formed last summer by Christopher Simpson, a South Kingstown resident and Princeton University student. With a cast and crew comprised of college and high school students, most from South Kingstown, the Company was incorporated as a non-profit in May 2006 with Simpson as its president and artistic director.
The incorporation comes after the success of the Company's inaugural performance of Neil Simon's Rumors last summer.
"The outpouring of community support, and the commitment of our cast and crew made our three-night run of Rumors an overwhelming success," said Maggie Brown, a Company actress and vice president. "We really love what we do here, and I think that comes through in our performances."
All shows are held at the Courthouse on Kingstown Road and start at 8 p.m. except for Sunday matinees that begin at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $14 for general admission, $12 for Courthouse members, and $10 for students with a student ID. Tickets are available at the door or can be reserved at www.courthousetheater.com or by phone at 782-1018.
