For Immediate Release
WEST KINGSTON - The Courthouse Theater Company is proud to announce the third installment of its 2006 season. You Can't Take It With You, the traditional summer theater favorite by George Kaufman and Moss Hart, will show daily from Thursday, Aug. 17 through Sunday, Aug. 20.
The play follows the zany life of the Sycamores, who at first appear mad - that is until you meet the rest of the world. A visit by an ex-Grand Duchess, earning her living as a waitress, and federal officials learning Grandpa Sycamore doesn't believe in the income tax. In the middle of it all, a romance brews between young Alice Sycamore and Tony, a delightful man from a family that doesn't always see eye-to-eye with the Sycamores. Both heartwarming and hilarious, this Pulitzer Prize-winning show will send the 2006 season out with style.
"This show will be a great complement to our season opener, 'Proof,' in that it is a lighthearted play with a large ensemble of truly fantastic characters," Director Christopher Simpson said. "Everyone will be able to enjoy this one."
All performances start at 8 p.m. except for the Sunday matinee that begins at 2 p.m. All shows take place at the Courthouse Center for the Arts at 3481 Kingstown Road in West Kingston. Tickets are $14 for general admission, $12 for Courthouse members, and $10 for students. Tickets are available at the door or can be reserved at www.courthousetheater.com or by phone at 782-1018.
ABOUT THE COMPANY
The Courthouse Theater Company was founded last summer by Christopher Simpson, a South Kingstown resident and Princeton University student. With a cast and crew comprised largely of local college and high school students, the company was incorporated as a non-profit in May 2006 with Simpson as its president and artistic director.
Last summer the company performed Neil Simon's Rumors and this year successfully took on David Auburn's "Proof," which closed July 2.
The group hopes to eventually fill the theatrical gap left in South County by the departure of Theater By The Sea, with an emphasis on making live performance an affordable and accessible component of the local arts scene.
