KINGSTON – To start the new year the Courthouse Theater Co. is proud to announce the third annual 24-Hour Play Festival at a new location. The festival, which includes original plays written, rehearsed and presented all in the short span of 24 hours, will take place at the Kingston Free Library on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 8 p.m.
The past two festivals have drawn hearty laughs from the audience as actors and actresses present hastily written scripts with some comical improvising between lines.
“It’s a really unique theater experience,” Assistant Director Emily Greenhalgh said. “The 24-Hour Play Festival shows that you can make something really fun and entertaining in the smallest amount of time and with the tiniest of resources. Although we’ve done these festivals twice before, I’m really looking forward to it, you get a completely different experience every time. You never know what to expect!”
Onstage will be South Kingstown residents Justin Kandler, Lily Mathews and Meghan Rose Donnelly among others. Behind the scenes, Beth Berry from Wakefield will take on a director role and Corey Sickinger, also from Wakefield, will be in a writer’s seat. Company Director Christopher J. Simpson will oversee the show.
At the end of the night the audience will vote for the best show overall, best actor, best actress and best plot with the winners receiving traditional humorous prizes.
This year’s show is being made possible through the generous support of the Friendship Fund of Narragansett and with the assistance of the Kingston Free Library.
Tickets for the Jan. 12 show at 8 p.m. are $5 and may be purchased at the door or reserved online at www.courthousetheater.com. The library is located at 2605 Kingstown Road, Kingston and is handicap accessible.
